FAQ

What is a good age to start piano?

Usually ages 9 and older.  Younger students can start, too, but require intense parent involvement.

What if we don't have a piano or keyboard?

I am happy to provide resources for you to purchase an acoustic piano or a digital keyboard.  Lessons depend on practice, so an at-home instrument is required.

How much practice is required?

Depending on the age & level, practice times can vary.  It is less about "practice minutes" and more about "practice quality".

If a student practices correctly and according to their weekly assignment notebook, they will make progress!

A general guideline:

At-home practice should occur 5 - 6 days each week!

Elementary Age Beginners:

15 - 20 minutes

Later Elementary:

20 - 30 minutes

Early Intermediate:

30 - 40 minutes

Intermediate to Advanced:

45 - 60 minutes

Lessons are all about progress - not perfection!

What if a student can't practice each day?

If that only happens occasionally, it's usually not a problem.  But if lack of practice causes lack of progress, then I will work with the parents and students to resolve the issue.  We can usually find creative and successful solutions!

What if we need to cancel a lesson?

Lesson changes with advance notice can usually be rescheduled.  I require 1 week notice for non-Illness related cancellations and 2-hour notice when a student is sick.

Are there additional fees besides regular tuition?

There is a one-time annual registration/materials fee, a spring recital fee + various event fees when applicable.  Music costs are also in addition to tuition.

All tuition, music & fees will be itemized and included on the monthly invoice/statement.
